Eddie The Elephant Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

Materials:
  • Lion Brand Tween Stripe Yarn in Prism
  • Small amount of worsted weight yarn in black
  • Size H Crochet Hook
  • Yarn Needle
  • Two 12 mm Black Safety Eyes with Fasteners
  • Poly-fil Stuffing

Abbreviations:
  • SC = Single Crochet
  • SC DEC = Single Crochet Decrease
  • HDC = Half Double Crochet
  • DC = Double Crochet
  • Sl St = Slip Stitch
  • Ch = Chain

Trunk

Row 1: Ch 11. HDC in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to the end. Now working on the opposite side of the ch, hdc in each ch to the end. Ch 1, but do not turn.

Row 2: Sl St to the tops of each hdc on both sides of the ch together.

Fasten off leaving a tail long enough to sew the trunk on with.

Ears

Make 2.

Row 1: Ch 7, sc in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: 1 hdc in the first st, 4 dc in the next st, sc in each of the next 2 sts, 4 hdc in the next st, hdc in the last st. Ch 2, turn.

Row 3: DC in each of the first 4 sts, sl st in each of the next 3 sts, dc in the last 5 sts. Fasten off but leave a tail long enough to stitch the ear on with.

Body

Round 1: Start with a magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring. Pull the tail to tighten the ring.

Round 2: 2 sc in each st around.

Round 3: * 1 sc in the first st, 2 sc in the next st *. Repeat from * to * around.

Round 4: * 1 sc in each of the first 2 sts, 2 sc in the next st *. Repeat from * to * around.

Round 5: * 1 sc in each of the first 3 sts, 2 sc in the next st *. Repeat from * to * around.

Round 6: * 1 sc in each of the first 4 sts, 2 sc in the next st *. Repeat from * to * around.

Round 7: Working in the back loop only, sc in each st around.

Round 8 – 19: working in both loops now, sc in each st around.

Attach the eyes, stitch on the ears, the trunk and a mouth.

Round 20: * 1 sc in each of the first 4 sts, sc dec over the next 2 sts *. Repeat from * to * around.

Round 21: * 1 sc in each of the first 3 sts, sc dec over the next 2 sts *. Repeat from * to * around.

Stuff the body firmly.

Round 22: * 1 sc in each of the first 2 sts, sc dec over the next 2 sts *. Repeat from * to * around.

Round 23: * 1 sc in the first st, sc dec over the next 2 sts *. Repeat from * to * around.

Round 24: SC DEC around. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Tail

Ch 10 then sl st back down the ch. Take a little of the back yarn and tie on short pieces to resemble the hair on the end of an elephant's tail.

Stitch this on to the rear-end of the elephant.

Legs

Make 4.

Row 1: Ch 10. SC in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2 – 10: SC across, ch 1, turn.

Once you reach the end of the row on row 10, ch 1 but do not turn. Sl st the two long sides together. Ch 1. Now, going around the end of the leg, sc around for a total of 10 sc. Next, sc dec around twice. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Stitch the legs to the belly of the elephant.
