Direction for magic ring: Make
a loop a few inches from the end of your yarn. Grasp the join of the loop
(where the 2 strands of yarn overlap) between your left thumb and forefinger.
Insert hook into the loop from front to back. Draw up a loop.
Directions for fpdc: Yarn
over, insert hook behind post of stitch (from front to back), yarn over, pull
through, bring up even with last stitch completed, yarn over, pull through
2 loops, (2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull through remaining 2 loops to
complete stitch.
Directions
for pbdc: Yarn over, insert hook in front of post of stitch (from
back to front), yarn over, pull through, bring up even with last stitch
completed, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, (2 loops on hook), yarn over, pull
through remaining 2 loops to complete stitch.
Slouch Hat
Round 1: Starting
with color a and a magic ring, 16 dc in ring. Pull tail to tighten the ring.
Join with sl st to first dc.
Round 2: Ch 2, dc in same
stitch, 2 dc in each st around. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. Fasten off.
Round 3: Join
color b. Ch 2, 2 dc in next st. * 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st *. Repeat
from * to * around. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. Fasten off.
Round
4: Join
color a. Ch 2, dc in next st, 2 dc in next st. * 1 dc in each of the next 2
sts, 2 dc in next st *. Repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to
top of ch 2.
Round 5: Ch
2, dc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st. * 1 dc in each of the next 3
sts, 2 dc in next st * Repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to top
of ch 2. Fasten off.
Rounds 6 – 8: Join
color b. Ch 2, alternate fpdc and bpdc in each st around. Join with sl st to
top of ch 2. Fasten off.
Rounds 9 & 10: Join color a. Ch 2, alternate fpdc and
bpdc in each st around. Make sure that these sts are lined up the same
as from the previous rounds. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. Fasten off.
Rounds
11 – 14: Join color b. Ch 2, alternate fpdc and bpdc in each st around.
Once again, make sure that these sts around are lined up the same as
from the previous rounds. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. Fasten off.
Round 15: Join color a. Ch 2, alternate fpdc and
bpdc in each st around. Join with sl st to top of ch 2.
Round 16: Ch
2, dc in each of the next 2 sts, dc dec. * dc in each of the next 3 sts, dc dec
* Repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to top of ch 2.
Round 17: Ch
1, sc in next st, sc dec. *1 sc in each of next 2 sts, sc dec * Repeat from *
to * around. Join with sl st to ch 1.
Rounds 18 & 19: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st
around. Fasten off and weave in ends.
