Little Charmers Hazel's Cat Beanie Free Crochet Pattern in Two Sizes

Materials:
¤ Worsted Weight Yarn  (I used Red Heart Super Saver in Amethyst and Shocking Pink)
¤ Crochet Hooks in sizes C, F, G & H
¤ Yarn Needle

Abbreviations:
¤ HDC = Half Double Crochet
¤ St = Stitch
¤ FPDC = Front Post Double Crochet
¤ BPDC = Back Post Double Crochet
¤ SC = Single Crochet
¤ SC Dec = Single Crochet Decrease
¤ Sl St = Slip Stitch
¤ Ch = Chain 

Toddler Size
G hook
Round 1: Starting with a magic ring and purple yarn, 8 hdc in ring. Pull tail of ring to tighten.
Round 2: 2 hdc in each st around.
Round 3: *1 hdc in first st, 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to *around, changing to hot pink with last yarn over of last st.
Round 4: *1 hdc in each of first 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around, changing back to purple with last yarn over of last st.
Round 5: *1 hdc in each of first 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around.
Round 6: *1 hdc in each of first 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around, changing to hot pink with the last yarn over of the last st.
Round 7: HDC in each st around, changing back to purple with last yarn over of the last st.
Round 8: *1 hdc in each of first 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to *around.
Round 9-15: HDC in each st around.
Rounds 16&17: *FPDC in the first st, BPDC in the next.* Repeat from *to *around.
Fasten off, weave in ends.

Child Size
H hook
Round 1: Starting with a magic ring and purple yarn, 8 hdc. Pull tail of ring to tighten.

Round 3: *1 hdc in first st, 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around.
Round 4: *1 hdc in each of first 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to  * around.
Round 5: *1 hdc in each of first 3 sts,  2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around.
Round 6: *1 hdc in each of first 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around changing to hot pink with the last yarn over of last st.
Round 7: HDC in each st around changing back to purple with the last yarn over of the last stitch.
Round 8: *1 hdc in each of first 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around.
Round 9: HDC each st around changing to hot pink with the last yarn over of last st.
Round 10: HDC in each st around changing back to purple with last yarn over of the last stitch.
Rounds 11-18: HDC in each st around.
Rounds 19&20: *FPDC in first st, BPDC in next.* Repeat from * to * around.
Fasten off,  weave in ends. 

Ears
Pink inside, make 2, F hook
Ch 7
Row 1: SC in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: SC across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: SC Dec over first 2 sts, sc in each of next 2 sts,  sc dec over last 2 sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4: SC across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 5: SC dec twice. Ch 1, turn.
Row 6: SC across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 7: SC Dec. Ch 1, turn.
Row 8: SC in the one remaining st.
Now, sl st around the triangle to get it a neater more finished look. Fasten off, leaving a tail about 6 inches long.
Purple outside part. Make two. Repeat the same steps as above (the pink inside) except use the H hook. Be sure to leave a tail that is 6 inches.
Stitch the pink inside part to the purple outside part using the pink tail. If you make small stitches and pull them somewhat tight, the pink yarn should be barely noticeable from the back of the purple part. 

Star
Hot pink yarn and C hook
Round 1: Starting with a magic ring,  10 sc in ring.  Join to first sc.
Round 2: *HDC in next st, ch 3, sc twice around post of hdc, sl st in next st.* Repeat for a total of 5 points.
Stitch the ears to the beanie at round 15 for the toddler size and 18 for the child size. Flip the last two rounds up and stitch the star just before the right ear. (When beanie is facing you.)
